Opis

“Rebels in the Rif: Abd El Krim and the Rif Rebellion” by David S. Woolman is a historical and biographical account of the Rif Rebellion in northern Morocco between 1921 and 1926 and its leader, Abd el-Krim. The book examines the political situation in Morocco and the establishment of Spanish colonial rule before focusing on Abd el-Krim, who united the Berber tribes of the Rif and led them in resistance against Spanish domination. A major part of the book concerns the Battle of Annual in 1921, a devastating defeat for Spain that allowed the Rif forces to achieve a series of important victories. Woolman also describes the military and political organization of the rebels, the creation of the Republic of the Rif, and Abd el-Krim’s efforts to establish an independent and stable state. The conflict eventually expanded to involve France, and the combined French and Spanish military intervention led to the defeat of the Rif forces and Abd el-Krim’s surrender in 1926.
