Sue Barker

Opis

Sue BarkerOpis:For the first time on CD - the coveted self-titled LP from Australian Jazz/Soul vocalist Sue Barker. Highly sought-after by funk and soul fans since its original issue in 1977, used copies of the LP - Sue's sole release as such - command prices over USD400 (on the rare occasion they turn up!). Its legendary reputation among Crate-Diggers has seen demand spread to the US, Germany, France and Japan. Sue's cult classic rendition of Curtis Mayfield's "Love To The People" (featured on the compilations Respect Overdue and Beach Diggin' 4) is an obvious highlight; but equally compelling is a similar Soul-Jazz reading of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". Sue infuses The Racal's "Grooving'" with reggae, while versions of "Lover Man", "You Stepped Out of a Dream" and "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me" showcase Sue's capabilities in the jazz arena. Backing is provided by some of Australia's best session players of the era. This first-time CD reissue features three previously unreleased bonus tracks. Recordings have been newly remastered from the original tapes, and are packaged with a 28-page booklet detailing Sue's story, illustrated with rare and unpublished photos and a note from Sue.
